What Am I Doing?

 

What is this space?

This is largely just me exploring different large scale projects. I have a variety of hobbies that I want to explore in different challenges (think 100 hours or 100 projects, but challenges may vary). I also have a few philosophical explorations through videos games and the concepts they borrow from. I will also probably have reviews for different games or manwa sprinkled throughout this space. It’s more or less a catch all for what I like.

1. Why this, why now

I make Youtube videos in my spare time, but they are pretty low effort. I thought about turning these different ideas into videos, but once I got to planning out everything, I kind of lost interest. Not in the idea, but the process, it was just too much for me. Text allows for more free form thinking for me and I feel like it requires a little less polish, or at least fewer visuals and audio (which means less copyright stuff to navigate.) This is mostly me trying to explore the ideas in my head with as few barriers as possible.

2. What kind of community are you looking to build here

Something casual. I’ll be posting here whether anyone reads or not. I would LOVE some conversations around stuff I love, and even some people that are willing to challenge my perspective, respectfully (threats will get you blocked).

3. Timing and What a Paid Subscription Gets You

For timing - It’s when I can and when I’m inspired to. I work as a teacher and there are some months when I’m too exhausted to even think clearly. There are others when I just can’t stop. It’s not something I want to put a strict limit on which is why I set up paid subscriptions to be more bonuses than core content.

The Dunce Cap

 The dunce cap has a surprising long history dating back way further than most would guess. It started with catholic priest named John Duns Scotus in the 13th century. He was well respected during his time for his complex theories and philosophies, he actually taught at the University of Paris until he was kicked out because sided with the pope when the pope was in dispute with the King of France (although he was later allowed to return). He was even beatified (meaning he was recognized to have lived a holy life) by Pope John Paul II in 93. One of his theories was that by wearing a cone shaped hat, knowledge could be absorbed at it’s tip and funneled into his head at the base of the hat. Despite how ridiculous this may sound today, he had many followers that also donned the conical headwear. 100 Hours of Manhwa

  1. What is the 100-hour challenge? The 100-hour challenge is something I’m doing while going through all of my hobbies to see which ones I want to stick with. Why manhwa specifically? Because that is the type of comic I read the most and the type of reading I most actively spend money on. Why now? I’m finding my time terribly finite, but I have a habit of staying with something even when I no longer find it fun. I’m actually really terrible about just enjoying something for the sake of it. I turn a bunch of stuff into projects or ramp things up so high that I stress myself out and the hobby is no longer enjoyable. I want to see what happens when I explore something for 100 hours and see if I still love it. If I do, it’s a keeper and if I don’t, then it’s time to let it go. What I need from you.
